Teach your choice of subject to children and adults, usually in the poorer section of society, in Schools, Orphanages, Social Care Centres, Crèches. Children’s Homes, and more, and always with the objective of helping the local community. You’ll benefit the children and also gain valuable skills and experience yourself. Your help is always appreciated because the schools generally have a lack of teachers, high illiteracy rates and poor funding. Teaching the children is hugely satisfying, a high feel-good factor!

ARGENTINA:
Teach English and a Variety of Subjects to Children in Buenos Aires
Teach in a choice of schools, orphanages and social assistance centres. You can help with English, Drama, Sport, Maths or Music, particularly if you have an interest in one of these areas. You'll act as an assistant to the regular English teacher. Despite their disadvantages, the children are usually warm and friendly and they respond well to care, attention and affection.

AUSTRALIA:
Teaching English to Refugee Children in Perth
Work as an assistant teacher in the school’s Intensive English Centre (IEC), which enables refugee children to learn English and adapt to the Australian education system before entering mainstream education. Class sizes vary between 10 and 15 children in each IEC class and you will be teaching children between the ages of 4 and 12. You can also teach subjects like Sports, Music, Drama, Maths and Art.

Teach Children in a Local School or Teaching Centre in Ubud in Bali
Work with children as an assistant teacher teaching English, Sport and Games to local children in a school or Teaching Centre. You can teach a variety of English Based subjects, and you'll also be able to teach whole classes on your own or or take classes together with other volunteers.
The average ages of children are between 4-7 years old for preschool and between 7-14 years old for primary school.

This project is very unusual in that you won't teach in a school, rather, you'll work in a Centre that provides unorthodox learning outside of the school environment. Teach at a school with 230 eager-to-learn children in Samraong. The children come from 6 different villages in the area and the school provides free education to those who otherwise couldn't afford it. You'll use games and activities to teach the children English in an informal, interactive setting. Lucky Kids Kindergarten is located in a large and colourful building and you can feel the fun atmosphere as soon as you walk in. You'll be teaching and caring for younger children from ages 3 up to 6. No qualifications required, all you need is a big smile and your creativity. Teach drama to children from the ages of 5 to 12, mainly at matriculation schools where English is taught as the main language. The Principals at the schools are very keen for the children to develop their acting skills and you'll have free rein on devising your own lessons. You'll normally teach 4 to 5 classes per day.

MALAYSIA:
Teach Conversational English to Children in Schools in Borneo
Teach in a rural(ish) village on the island of Borneo in the South China Sea. You'll teach in a primary and secondary school in Tamparuli, about an hour from Kota Kinabalu. English is taught in all schools, but in rural areas the children have no need or opportunity to speak the language outside the classroom, so they get very little practice in pronunciation and speech. Having exposure to you as a native English speaker is very beneficial to them and helps them raise their grades, which is a big plus given that in the rural areas, the passing rate of English is only 60%.

Teach disadvantaged children in township schools in the beautiful coastal resort town of Knysna. Inspire poor township children. You may have the opportunity to put together plays or musical performances by the children in front of their parents and other visitors. This is a great project and you'll do some or all of the following:

• Organising drama workshops in various local schools around Knysna.
• Organising an after-school drama club.
• Helping the local school children to put on a small-scale productions where they can be involved (either acting, creating costumes, masks, set or make-up).
• Devising and performing educational pieces of theatre (on topical issues, such as bullying).
• You could also help out with English classes or other subjects.

Help in a school that has just over 200 children with physical and intellectual impairments. The pupils are aged from 3 years old to 18. There are four sections covering nursery, junior, middle and senior. Work as a classroom assistant or class aide (helping children in and out of wheelchairs for different activities, or helping the teacher with various class activities, like painting, doing puzzles – and with the older children cooking, simple maths and reading etc). Work in a Centre and Hostel for children with Autism, as a classroom and hostel assistant. You may help where children need special attention, or with a small group while the teacher works with another group. School work varies with different age groups, but is based on the normal school activities – a great deal of one-to-one attention is needed and children learn basic skills.
You'll also be able to help with supervised activities like swimming which is part of the daily summer curriculum. After school, you'll help with "play time” duty . You'll also be involved in indoor supervision of children.

This project is located near the famous Wasgamuwa Game Park - A truly cultural Sri Lankan Experience! Teaching in Wasgamuwa is varied with ages ranging from about 8 - 40. Your students will be an eclectic collection - from school children to monks and park wardens! And lessons are fun and often include a heavy environmental component. For example, you'll take your students on field trips to watch birds, and you may even be asked to teach the basics of natural history in general and anything about elephants!

Help on this education program by teaching Monks in the temples, and children in pre-schools and upper schools in the villages. The objective is to help them improve their English language.

I'm a teacher by profession and every year I go on a Travelers project to teach children in disadvantaged countries. Why? Because they want to learn! Do you know how good it is to teach children who want to learn? It refreshes my spirit and reminds me why I joined the teaching profession in the first place.

How your Teaching Benefits the Children:
They want to learn because the end result will be greater opportunities in life for them, whether career-wise or, for the luckier ones, possibly getting into a better university.
Travellers also makes donations to most of our poorer schools. Sometimes we sponsor the children's education or we provide money directly to the school. We also buy necessities, food, books, uniforms, computers and teaching aids for the kids - And this is only possible because our volunteers have chosen to do a voluntary project with us!

And what do you gain? Valuable skills, or improve the skills you already have. Experience in how to interact with children and yet retain authority, a boost to your confidence, and the satisfaction of knowing that you are making a huge difference to the children and their abilities.
